After a deep winter, a cold spring

Meteorologist B. Medinis emphasizes: climate change does not mean global warming. Somewhere, it is true, heats up. But in Italy, for example, which is famous for its mild climate, frost has hit the vineyards this year. We had a record heating season that entered the second decade of May. And even now, residents of private homes still walk the paths to firewood. The flowering of our apples and oils is delayed for a good two weeks. And the heat that was supposed to reach us traveled far north. They are enjoyed by the inhabitants of the Siberian expanses from Arkhangelsk to Murmansk and by polar bears.

Climate change causes storms and other unpleasant phenomena to increase in our countries.

So far, the weather is such that the average daily temperature is approaching 12-13 degrees. The heating season usually ends when the three-day average temperature exceeds 10 degrees. And where is the humidity. “On a sunny day, the feeling of warmth is completely different. And now cold, wet. So at least private home owners are still building stoves, ”said B. Medinis.

There will be no frost, low thunderstorms

Now, with apples blooming and oils spreading, gardeners are suffering from a topical question: Will there be frosts? B. Wooden says it is unlikely. The reason is simple: although the average air temperature is relatively low, the nights are warm enough, with around 8 degrees of heat prevailing. Although it rains all the time, it is still missing an essential sign of spring: storms.

True, sometimes on the edges of the clouds and cloudy, to each other flashes lightning. The interlocutor says that it is something natural: it is quite cold, so there are no normal storms. Is it true that thunderstorms are less common in the mornings? “Yes, it is true. In the morning, thunderstorms occur only when a powerful front passes, at night, a storm rages. Storms usually start in the afternoon and at night, around 7 pm to 8 pm “Said the interlocutor.

And behold, the rain gave and added

Almost a week before the end of May, according to B. Medinis, the precipitation rate on our lands fell by around two in May. That’s it from Saturday night and on Sunday alone, was enough spilled to last a decade. And the weather forecast for this week is not gratifying: rain with brief lights.

Such a heavy rain, of course, resonates. In the vicinity of Panemunėlis and Pandėlis, it is now difficult to go out into the yard without rubber boots. The water collects in the furrows of the gardens and in the fields of farmers – considerable lakes, in some places ducks also swam. The interlocutor is open: this summer will be a great test for farmers’ drainage systems. “Now there is no shortage of work on the farms: the fields are fertilized, sprayed with weeds and pests. The situation is such that in some places the team no longer enters the field, ”he said. And those trends will continue at least until Friday.

The long, dull rain also has a silver lining. Last year, the country suffered a hydrological drought: rivers and lakes were flooded. Is balance gradually restored? “The water of Nemunėlis had risen one meter. Now a bit sunk. But the water in the rivers is rising. Gradually, it also penetrates into the deep layers”, B. Medinis saw the benefits of the rainy climate.

Summer – cold and rainy

For forecasters, gardeners, florists, and active recreation enthusiasts are not happy. “It looks like we will have a cool and humid summer. In a true Lithuanian summer, when we could only swim once or twice in three months, ”said B. Medinis. And he added that in recent years the climate has been mime: summer, the warm weather has even moved to September, autumn has been long and warm, and winter has been mild. This year and winter were cold and deep, and spring is long and cold, and summer does not promise anything good. “Of course, there can be multiple heat waves. But the general trend, as both our Synoptics and Scandinavians have noted, should be about this,” said B. Medinis.

For gardeners, gardeners who grow heat-loving plants, this summer will be difficult. “It will be difficult to grow tomatoes and peppers in the field. Think about the need to take care of greenhouses, inspectors, covered beds,” advised the interlocutor.
