The Klaipeda municipality reported that in the early hours of Sunday the mask of the sound of the siren, which disturbed the peace of the residents of the city, was unfounded.
“This is an unauthorized activation of the warning sirens to the population, for which there was no reason. The Klaipėda City Municipality will carry out an official inspection to find out who and for what reason lit the sirens this morning, ”the report reads.
According to data from “Open Klaipeda”, the sirens were activated automatically due to the signal received from the LNG terminal. If this is a reasonable version and what happened at the terminal, Atvira Klaipėda asked to comment on its operator AB Klaipėdos Nafta (KN).
Following the request, the company issued a message confirming that, according to the information in its possession, the signal came from a CN siren located in the territory of the Bulk Cargo Terminal.

I will only inform you that there are at least some economic entities of strategic importance and that they increase the risk due to the specificities of their activities in the territory of the city (for example, LNG terminal, Klaipedos Nafta, some stevedoring companies). They have autonomous siren systems that can only be activated in strictly defined cases and with the permission of the coordinating authorities.
Today’s case (so far only based on preliminary information) was a technical failure of one of those systems. Which of them, why did it happen, who is to blame and how to avoid it in the future, all this will be answered by a commission that will start work tomorrow morning, which will also include representatives of national institutions, because it is already a question state citizen security.
Where technology fails, they need to be precisely identified, removed immediately, and avoided in the future. There is also a “human factor” (although in this case the reason does not seem to be there). Therefore, this situation must and certainly will be thoroughly analyzed and evaluated, and very serious and competent conclusions have been drawn, as such errors can be very costly.
