The Varėna border guards successfully prevented an attempt to smuggle cigarettes into Lithuania. SBGS officials detained a total of three Druskininkai Township residents and 2,000. smoking packages. The trio face thousands of fines and the two violators will also have to answer for illegally wearing a soldier’s uniform.

On Thursday evening, Kapčiamiestis firebreak officials from the SBGS Varėna border team noticed two men with carriers in the desert near the town of Sventijanskas in Druskininkai municipality. This place is a couple of hundred meters from the border with Belarus.

When the quadruped found the tracks, he followed them for another two hundred meters to the depths of the country, where the hiding place was held. It turned out that he is a thirty-year-old resident of Druskininkai Township.
SBGS officials immediately noticed that this offender and one of the previously arrested Druskininkai were wearing camouflage pants patented by the Lithuanian Armed Forces.

The illegal circulation of excise goods in violation of the established procedure led to the initiation of administrative procedures by border guards. The men face fines ranging from 5,200 to 6,000 euros.
In addition, the Military Police prosecuted two offenders for the illegal use of military uniforms. There are fines of 30 to 140 euros for this.
After the interrogations, the border guards dropped the cigarette holders. They received summons to go to the Kapčiamiestis border barrier. The fumes are temporarily stored and transported in the SBGS unit mentioned above.
