The members of the Seimas propose to legalize the so-called tire machines in Lithuania from 2025, special containers in which used tires can be left.

According to the initiator, this would lead to more tires being recycled and less thrown into the environment.

This proposal was registered in the Seimas by two “peasants”: Virginija Vingrienė and Tomas Tomilinas.

V. Vingrienė says that by installing these containers, up to 95% of the waste would be collected and organized. tires entering the market, about 70 percent of which are now driven at the time.

“A tire depot would be the first step to return tires and turn them into raw material for others to make their products. Little by little, companies are coming to recycle tires into recyclable products. This is the hope that we will have the first example circular economy in Lithuania in the tire system, ”V. Vingrienė told BNS.

The project provides for the return of the deposit established by the government paid by the owner of the car for the delivery of the tires to the containers.

Tire manufacturers and importers will need to label tires to identify which tires are covered by the warranty and who the manufacturer or importer is.

Municipalities must provide container space free of charge; at least you should build a tire machine on them. 50,000 population must have at least one of these facilities.

The authors of the idea of tire machines say that now people are not interested in handling this waste properly, on the contrary, their collection procedure encourages tires to be disposed of in municipal waste containers, in the forest or in road.

This is because shipping in larger quantities costs. Only up to five tires are accepted free of charge per inhabitant per year at large waste reception sites.
