“We just realized that this whole situation was a bit absurd and childish. It reminds me of children pushing in a litter box when there is a big storm and a thunderstorm: COVID-19 storms (…) Knowledge Radio”, said the vice president of the Seimas belonging to the “Employees”.
According to the politician representing the smallest opposition fraction of the Seimas, the leaders of the “peasants” do not seem to agree that the initiative was taken by right-wing parliamentarians. According to him, in order to achieve their objectives, the “peasants” must not forget that a compromise must simply be reached.
“When you are in the opposition, it seems to me that it is very clear to everyone that it is no longer you who makes the decisions, but the decisions are made by the other side. If you want decisions to be made the way you want, the consultation process is natural. It seems to me that this was not the case at all. That is why the situation has become such personal ambitions that they have led to the situation that we saw yesterday in Parliament. It’s completely intolerable, “he said.
After the departure of R. Karbauskis, Seimas will not collapse
A. Mazuronis also criticized the method chosen by the president of the “peasants” R. Karbauskis to protest against the policy followed by the rulers: resigning the mandate of a member of the Seimas.
“Before blaming someone, you should look objectively and critically at their actions. It seems to me that there were some flaws in those actions,” said the politician.
“But if the ‘peasants’ decided that this course of action seemed rational and constructive to them, that’s all,” said Mazuronis, adding that it was not so important whether R. Karbauskis would stay in office or not.
“The Seimas will not really collapse because of that,” he added.
The figures of V. Čmilytė-Nielsen and S. Skvernelis are important for the end of the conflict
According to A. Mazuronis, only the president of the Seimas Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen can suppress the passions fired between the “peasants” and the ruling majority.
“If it doesn’t, I doubt that there is a parliamentarian in the Seimas who can adequately handle the situation we are seeing today,” the politician said.
Meanwhile, Saulius Skvernelis, who is the acting prime minister, is convinced that A. Mazuronis, after R. Karbauskis has left the Seimas, can actually become a person who unites the divided opposition.
“He is still the acting prime minister. Now he simply did not have the opportunity to devote time to the adventures and battalions that unfold in the Seimas. But when the new government receives the mandate and when Saulius Skvernelis can focus all his work on him Seimas, I have no doubt that this dialogue between parties and factions of the opposition will undoubtedly be more constructive.
Some content will be discussed, not emotions, as has been happening lately, ”said A. Mazuronis.
R. Karbauskis announced the decision to resign the mandate of a member of the Seimas at the faction meeting held on Thursday. This decision was made after a long dispute between the ruling government and the opposition over the distribution of seats in the Seimas. According to the leader of the “peasants”, the new ruling majority does not tolerate a different opinion, it restricts the rights of the opposition.
