Mazuronis reacted to Karbauskis’ statements: the Labor Party will not sign opposition agreements

Such a reaction from A. Mazuronis was to the words of Ramūnas Karbauskis, the leader of the Lithuanian Peasants and Greens Union (LVŽS), that a cooperation agreement is currently possible only between opposition factions, but not between parties. According to R. Karbauskis, Eltai would not sign any agreement at the moment with the chairman of the Labor Party, Viktor Uspaskich, who is offering the public the purchase of water, which supposedly helps to create immunity against COVID-19.

A. Mazuronis Eltai also confirmed that Saulius Skvernelis, a member of the LVŽS faction, had arranged a meeting with members of the opposition parties this week on further cooperation between the opposition.

“I did not attend, it would be difficult for me to say what was being discussed there because I did not attend the meeting. But it happened last week or so. Viktor Uspaskich, the chairman of the Labor Party, was present in its entirety, “A. Mazuronis told Eltai.

According to him, the opposition did consider the idea of a cooperation agreement, but, according to A. Mazuronis, this was prevented by the position expressed by R. Karbauskis that LVŽS would sign the cooperation agreement only between opposition factions and not between parties. .

“It just came to our knowledge then. When a person in politics for so many years, plus the president of the party, says that, it makes me laugh. Perhaps the LVŽS is for the faction to be for itself, the party for itself, But the Labor Party faction is an integral part of the party. These are the board, the council, the presidium and the faction. All major decisions are made in support of the budget, the government program; decisions are made in the party council, not in the faction. I have a hard time imagining how a faction can be separated from a party. I don’t see any real possibility that the group will consider any agreement separately from the party. Because it is difficult to understand that this could be the case ” said A. Mazuronis to Eltai.

According to him, R. Karbauskis currently fears the growing influence of S. Skvernelis among the members of LVŽS.

“R. Karbauskis, fearing internal competition from S. Skvernelis, is doing anything to prevent S. Skvernelis from gaining the role of leader of the opposition and thus not strengthening it. It is obvious that after R. Karbauskis left the Seimas, he became less visible and has less influence on the faction. Naturally, he doesn’t want S. Skvernelis to get stronger as a leader. It is highly regrettable that due to this self-interest and internal political struggles, the interests of the LVŽS opposition and the opportunity to work together and cooperate are sacrificed. I am very sorry that Mr. R. Karbauskis sees the whole situation in this way, “he said.

When asked if LVŽS would offer to sign an agreement between the factions, if the “workers” would consider such an agreement, A. Mazuronis said that he did not think so.

“The problem for us is that if we want to sign a faction agreement, we have to get the approval of the party council. If they say that they are not going to talk to the president of our party, then that model is not suitable for us, “he said.

According to A. Mazuronis, LVŽS could sign a cooperation agreement between the factions only if a new faction appeared in the Mixed Group of Seimas members. Currently, there are 13 parliamentarians in the Joint Group of Members of the Seimas.

ELTA recalls that, according to R. Karbauskis, currently a cooperation agreement is only possible between opposition factions, but not between parties. According to him, he would not currently sign any agreement with Labor Party Chairman V. Uspaskich, who offers the public to buy water, which allegedly helps create immunity against COVID-19.

“The agreement should not be between parties, but between factions. It is hard for me to imagine it between the parties at the moment, because in fact some of the actions of the chairman of the Labor Party are difficult to understand at the moment. Consequently, I, as president could not sign a document with the chairman of the Labor Party, whose conduct raises many doubts. The situation with the LSDP is also unclear. There is a party chairman, but there is internal controversy over what the party’s policy should be. The election of the senior Social Democrat only made it clear. I do not see the possibility of signing a cooperation agreement between the parties, except between the opposition factions of Seimas, “he said.

According to R. Karbauskis, such an agreement would allow the factions to negotiate a joint opposition program and the role of the opposition leader.

“It is an initiative on our part that the Seimas have an opposition leader. When he was still a member of the Seimas, the president of the Seimas and other members of the Seimas, who represented the ruling majority, lied that the” peasants “could have in themselves An opposition leader themselves. But we cannot because we lacked LVŽS and we are missing two people. And not only LVŽS has to agree, but also colleagues from Labor and Social Democratic factions. All or at least two opposition groups must agree There is that possibility in the Seimas, and LVŽS really wants the leader of the opposition to appear on the Board of the Seimas, ”R. Karbauskis told Eltai.

According to him, if the agreement could be signed in the spring session, then the opposition leader could rotate. R. Karbauskis also made no secret that the LVŽS would delegate former Prime Minister S. Skvernelis to the opposition leaders.

In the new Seimas, the LVŽS won 32 seats, the Social Democrats – 13, the Labor Party – 10.
