When the mayor of Alytus Nerijus Cesiulis learned about the possibility of Dainava joining the A league last week, he was still analyzing everything very carefully and answered each question with the question: what will the club want? What does the Lithuanian Football Federation expect from us? Can we be competitive in such a short time?

The mayor received answers to all these questions on Monday, so he quickly decided to add another financial line to football. Sure, these things haven’t been approved by the city yet, but the ice cream has moved.

“Alytus is a city with deep soccer traditions. We can be proud of our adult players, the ideal infrastructure and the ideal fans. Therefore, we must try to do the best we can. I can add from myself that when the spectators can return to stadiums, I will always be with the team, I will always chant the name “Dainava” and support it so that it is only better for her, “said N. Cesiulis. .

Speaking of football last year, the mayor of Alytus pointed out that one day “Dainava” could become the then Lithuanian champion Marijampolė “Sūduva”. During today’s interview, he mentioned the name “Sūduva” again, saying that at least once this year “Dainava” can defeat the Marijampolė club.

“We all understand that the first year will be difficult, but playing with the best is the best opportunity to improve. If the quarantine is released, it will be a great honor and privilege for the people of Alytus to see their hometown team play in League A.

I’m trying to be optimistic, so I think maybe one day we will defeat Sūduva too. At the end of the day, it happens that the stick also shoots, and the people of Marijampolė are our neighbors, who have shown very well what path to follow to become the best. Of course, we do not rule out a scenario that will not succeed. However, I can guarantee that this will not change the attitude of the municipality towards the club, “said N. Cesiulis on sportas.lt.

Dainava will play the last preseason game against the Knights this Saturday, and a week later, according to the preliminary schedule, he should meet Kėdainiai “Nevėžis”.
