“I personally had no information that the chairman of the district commission is an assistant to one of the candidates,” the head of the CEC told BNS on Tuesday.
According to her, the CEC members who participated in the vote counting reported that R. Gudynienė did not participate in the vote counting, only organized the venue.
“According to the members of the CEC who participated in the scrutiny, the president of the regional commission did not participate in the scrutiny, she only organized the local one. All other actions were carried out by other members of the commission, ”said L. Matjošaitytė.
He added that the information on the situation in the uninominal constituency of Utena may be reviewed and discussed again when the constituency commission presents the vote counting protocols to the CEC.
According to L. Matjošaitytė, the chairwoman of the Utena Regional Commission had to withdraw from all issues related to the direct employer.
“Considering that one of the candidates is the employer of the committee chairman, it would of course be best to walk away from all issues related to the direct employer so there is no conflict of interest,” said L. Matjošaitytė, chair of the CEC.
In the uninominal constituency of Utena, the vote counting was organized by the president of the commission R. Gudynienė, who also works as an assistant to the member of the Seimas Edmundas Pupinis, who was recognized as the winner of the elections.
He claimed that he had retired from the SNB and had not participated in the count, but had organized it and done some technical work.
The Lithuanian Social Democratic Party intends to write a complaint to the CEC about this and other possible violations.
After counting the votes on election night, it became clear that the leader of the Social Democrats Gintautas Paluckas and the conservative candidate E. Pupinis had received 7,075 votes each.
A vote recount was organized on Monday, then 7,072 votes were found for E. Pupinis and 7,070 for G. Paluckas. .
