Massive vehicle theft in Estonia: two members of the group were arrested in Kaunas during an international operation

The ongoing investigation of the Estonian and Kaunas county police revealed that in the period of 2017. up to this meter. These men, along with others, organized and stole a total of at least 32 cars in Estonia (from 2013 to 2020), causing almost € 270,000 in damage.

In the course of the investigation of these car thefts, 18 people who were involved in a criminal group across Europe (Latvia, Poland, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia) were identified and arrested in Estonia and other countries (including Lithuania) .

During the search, cash was found in Kaunas residents, about 10 thousand. euros, weapons and other items.

In Kaunas, with the participation of the Kaunas County Police Coroner, officers of the patrol team and colleagues from Estonia and Eurojust in coordination with the operation, two of them were arrested: a previously convicted man (born 1981) detained in an auto repair shop, another previously convicted man (born 1985). During the search, they found cash, about 10 thousand. euros, weapons and other items that can be used for criminal activities.

Today, December 2, they are arrested under European arrest warrants issued by Estonia.

An investigation is under way in Estonia into acts threatening children under 15 years of age. deprivation of liberty, these acts correspond to the crimes provided for in article 249 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Lithuania. 1 d. (criminal association) and art. 3 d. (Stole). The searches in Lithuania were carried out in compliance with European investigation warrants issued by Estonia, the execution of which was supervised by prosecutors from the 2nd Prosecution Division of the Kaunas Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
