A month ago, the priest of Skardupiai, A. Kanapka, did not allow the coffin to enter the cemetery because people wanted another cleric to bury it. And priest A. Kanapka wanted to bury himself. The funerals entered the cemetery only by pushing the priest to the side.
The locals after the conflict said they had long been hurt by the priest’s behavior: he mocked the dead and the living, called out atheists, compared them to dogs, pushed the pregnant woman and demanded great sacrifices for the church. . Therefore, the parishioners asked to change the priest.
The pastor himself did not intend to change the parish. Bishop Rimantas Norvilas of Vilkaviškis fired the priest after receiving a complaint from 276 residents.
“Considering not only the story of the funeral, but also a little more, we believe that it will be better for both the parish and that priest if everything is resolved in this way,” R. Norvilas told LNK News.
After the dismissal, the priest could not be contacted, the bishop explains that A. Kanapka is surviving a conflict with the population.
“You must not demonize that priest, he has really done a lot of good, maybe the character is strong and not everyone likes him. Right now, people want to see a softer, more agreeable priest, when something like a Ken doll to be a priest ”, joked the interlocutor.
This is the third parish where people have asked the bishop to forgive A. Kanapka. A year ago, the priest was questioned by the Akmenynai community of the Kalvarija municipality.

As a non-Catholic woman, she sang in church her entire life. Only one dead man came out. During each mass it was said that we are all sick, we all have cancer. That is what happens to the townspeople, “said Rima Brisotienė, the old woman from Akmenynai, about the priest A. Kanapkas.
15 years ago A. Kanapka was abandoned by the Gražiškės community in the Vilkaviškis district. This time the people were upset that the priest did not allow the coffin to enter the church.
Bishop R. Norvil said he did not know where to place the priest asked from the third parish.
“I still have no idea, I don’t know, maybe we’ll give him a break or coordinate,” he said.
The man, who did not want to give his name and saw a conflict with the priest, told LNK news that he hoped this was not the last parish of this priest. According to him, people will keep asking for it.
“After such nuances, such a priest should be demoted,” said the man.
A. Kanapka must hand over the affairs of the Skardupiai parish to the new priest within a month.

Kanapka is still standing in the hall, they even offer him money a little later. But he rejects the money, emphasizes that he does not insult the parishioners, he expects the same from them.

Relatives of the deceased sadly invited the pastor of another parish to be buried, but the local priest resisted.
Organizers of the local funeral say this is not the first time the pastor has admitted other priests.
