Head of the Lithuanian men’s basketball team. Coach Darius Maskoliūnas has announced thirteen basketball players who are included in the national team for the next “bubble” of the European Championship in Vilnius. Maskoliūnas also invited two newcomers from Betsafe – LKL to the team.
Prienai CBet leader and LKL most useful player Regimantas Miniotas will join the national team at the end of November, as well as the youngest member of the national team: 18-year-old defender Augustas Marčiulionis from Vilnius Rytas .
Marčiulionis, who made his LKL debut this year only, will probably remember this year for a long time, first the first steps in men’s basketball, and very soon, the invitation to wear the national team jersey.
Marčiulionis found out about the invitation to the national team immediately after morning training “Rytas”. There was no smile on the boy’s face; After training, he had already received congratulations from both friends and fans.
“I really thought right away: force! It was a lot of fun looking at the list. Clearly, there will be some excitement, the national team is something important. There will be old players in the national team, there will be many good players. I will be a newcomer here, still very young … But on the other hand, very, very interesting. It’s a great pleasure that the coach gave us that opportunity, probably with a breakthrough into the future. I’m looking forward to the camp, it’s very interesting, ”said Marčiulionis, smiling at LKL.lt.
It is true that in the team’s duel against the Danish and Belgian teams, Marčiulionis will not be the only option for Maskoliūnas in the player position. Mantas Kalnietis, Paulius Valinskas, Šarūnas Vasiliauskas, people who have already gained international experience, were also invited to the team.

However, according to Marčiulionis, the names of the players and the accumulated experience are probably the most rewarding: just the opportunity to train with them and stay in the same environment is considered by this talent from “Morning” as a particularly useful waiting experience. and interesting.
“It just came to our attention then. Kalnietis alone, how many years has he played in the national team, what high level has he seen. It will be very interesting to learn from him, to observe closely how he plays. Also Vasiliauskas, Valinskas … Really learn from all powers. It will be very interesting to see their level, and even more interesting, how I will see myself among them, how I will do it, “said Marčiulionis.
When asked if Kalnietis himself was never the god of Marčiulionis, the basketball player laughed and admitted that this is exactly the case: life unfolds in such a way that soon a team will have to meet a person who he had previously dreamed of a basketball career.
“It just came to our knowledge then. When the championships were held, when Mantas did well in them, he was the star of Lithuania. It will be nice and strange to be together in the same team. I’m really looking forward to it,” said Marčiulionis .
Marčiulionis does not set high goals in this selection bubble for the European Championship. The most important thing, according to the basketball player himself, is to feel on your skin what it really means to work in national team training sessions and, of course, to have a shirt with your last name on it.
“To start with, I just want to go in, see how everything looks, test myself in training, self-assess what I can and cannot do. My goal is to get as much as possible out of this camp, and whether I will score points in the match or make my national team debut is not the top priority yet, ”said Marčiulionis.
