Famous social media assets made no secret of their outrage at the Church’s original decision and called it shameful. Saugirdas Vaitulionis, Eimutis Kvoščiauskas, Aistis Mickevičius, Mantas Bertulis, Andrius Užkalnis, Paulius Ambrazevičius, Haroldas Mackevičius and many others expressed their disapproval of this step.
In addition to this abundance of creators, actor and television host M. Stonkus also originally proved his position. The famous person published a video on his social networks in which he made fun of the news.
To enhance the impression, the actor not only disguised himself as a priest, but also tried to replicate the appropriate way of speaking.
In the parody, M. Stonkus alluded to holy water, which is supposed to protect all believers from the coronavirus. With that said, he didn’t forget to add that hundreds or even more people often dip their fingers in this water, which sounds like a possible bacterial medium in the context of these days.
The actor, who listed the creative dangers of gathering in church, ended his video with a prayer for the dead: “Give the dead eternal rest, Lord!” It is these words that have affected many Internet users the most. Not a single commenter has argued that these prayers may be necessary if the Church decides to renew services.
The M. Stonkus parody was reviewed and positively rated by thousands of Lithuanians.
Worship is not renewed when society rebels
The Lithuanian Episcopal Conference changed the decision and decided not to resume public services with the people, Metropolitan Gintaras Grušas, archbishop of Vilnius, announced on Wednesday.
“Given the current situation, today we have decided not to resume public services in the churches with the participation of the faithful,” said the president of the Episcopal Conference at a remote press conference.
According to him, the order adopted in mid-December will continue to be applied in the churches: there will be no public services, but it is possible to pray in private, make a confession or, according to the priest, receive St. Communion.
G. Grušas stated that the initial decision on the renewal of services was taken at the end of 2020.
“At the end of the year, we expected to be able to return to the order that was in our churches during the quarantine until December 16 of last year, when a limited number of people attended services in accordance with the necessary security requirements,” he said.
However, the beginning of the new year has shown that the pandemic situation in Lithuania remains quite dire. The stricter restrictions adopted by the government, initially limited to the festive period, have been extended until the planned end of the quarantine, “added the archbishop.
According to him, it has been decided not to renew the Mass until the end of January, but if there were more significant positive epidemiological changes, the services could be renewed earlier.
“In this way, we stand in solidarity with all those for whom this moment is extremely difficult, especially with patients, doctors and nurses,” said G. Grušas.
He also noted that the decision not to renew St. A large number of these were made in consultation with government and medical experts.
Lithuania has a stricter quarantine regime until January 31. He closed many stores, hairdressers, restricted the movement of people and meetings.
