“Retirees have worked hard all their lives and deserve a dignified old age that is independent of the moods of politicians and electoral cycles. If a person has worked, paid taxes, he is entitled to a decent pension. And it is not the kind of pension that Valius Ąžuolas (former president of BFK – ELTA) came up with one morning that he has to pay more and pay one more person.
I think there must be 12 pensions that need to grow and they will grow 9% next year as required by law, and I hope they continue to grow. And here you will not need 13 or 15 pensions, but 12 pensions will suffice, which will not depend on the good humor of the politicians, “M. Majauskas told LRT radio.
The Ministry of Social Security and Labor (SADM) broadly supports the proposal of former members of Seimas Vanda Kravčionok and Zbignev Jedinskis to pay a pension number 13 of 200 euros, but suggests that the project be improved.
The conclusion drawn up by the Ministry of Social Affairs, which the Government is expected to consider next week, proposes that the regulation not be introduced in the Law of Single Payments for Beneficiaries of Pensions and Social Security Assistance, but in a new law, since the objectives are different.
“The lump sum was intended to mitigate the negative effects of COVID-19 and the 13th annual pension to reduce social exclusion. The legitimate expectations of a global benefit for those who began receiving a pension or welfare benefit in September 2020 or later could also be violated, ”the ministry said.
The Ministry of Social Affairs also proposes to establish a differentiation mechanism according to the amount of income received and to predict when it would not be allocated, around 90 thousand. According to the Ministry, in addition to social security pensions, people receive additional pension-type benefits from the state budget: state pensions, annuities, in addition, people can work and have work-related income.
ELTA recalls that after the presentation, the previous Seimas approved the proposal regarding the 13th pension.
The then rulers said that pension number 13 would help boost consumption, but the proposal was criticized by economists and the then opposition.
