“We have information that more than 300 Syrian jihadists previously deported from the Aleppo region have been transferred to the conflict zone in Nagorno-Karabakh via the Turkish city of Gaziantep (participating in hostilities on the Turkish-backed side of Azerbaijan – ELTA). This is a confirmed fact, these people have been identified, they are all linked to the terrorist organization “Islamic State”. I discussed this with President Vladimir Putin, who confirmed that Russia also has such data, “said Macron.
“Such (Turkish) behavior is not appropriate for a NATO member state, we consider such behavior completely unacceptable. In this case, the red line has already been crossed ”, he emphasized.
“Russia, the United States and France, as chairmen of the OSCE Minsk Group, will take various initiatives in the near future to end the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh. We maintain close working contacts,” Macron said.
For his part, the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, highlighted in a press conference on the outcome of the first day of the EU summit that the Community asked Turkey not to intervene in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and to play a constructive role in reducing the situation.
The situation in Nagorno-Karabakh became complicated on September 27, with clashes in the disputed area. Military state imposed on Azerbaijan and Armenia, announced the mobilization. Both parties report deaths and injuries, including civilians. Azerbaijan claims to have occupied several villages and strategic highlands of Karabakh. Yerevan denies this and reports that shots are also being fired at Armenian territory.
The Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh began in February 1988, when the Nagorno-Karabakh Armenian Autonomous Region declared its withdrawal from the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic. In September 1991, the establishment of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic was announced at the Stepanakert Autonomous Administrative Center.
As a result of the military conflict, Azerbaijan lost control of Nagorno-Karabakh.
Negotiations for a peaceful solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh problem have been under way since 1992, but have so far failed.
