Lukashenko: in Belarus, unlike Lithuania, a woman will not become president

“Our constitution is not for women [prezidentei]. And our society is not yet mature enough to vote for a woman. Because under our constitution, the president has strong power, “Lukashenko said, according to the BelTA state news agency.

The President cited Lithuania as a negative example.

“With us … – not Lithuania. Dalia Grybauskaitė was the president there; she came, smiled, sat down and left. No one is responsible for anything, because there is a parliamentary republic,” said Lukashenko.

“It just came to our attention then.” The president must be a man, I am absolutely convinced of that, “he added.

However, Lukashenko praised the women who were preparing for the presidential election campaign in Belarus in August and who are currently collecting signatures from their supporters.

“It just came to our attention then [moterys] quietly, calmly collect these signatures. “I recently discovered that these women have collected more signatures than all the men who do their public relations online,” said the president.

Currently, 14 initiative groups are collecting signatures for their candidates, including four women running for president.
