“The president has decided to fire the current government. A corresponding order has been signed,” reported the Belarusian state television channel 1.
Lukashenko announced last week his intention to form a new government ahead of the August 9 presidential elections.
Last Friday, the head of state confirmed his plans: “I talked about it and I will.” He added that he will appoint an interim prime minister in the near future.
On Wednesday morning, Lukashenko held a meeting to discuss proposals for a new government. The President has promised that there will be no revolutionary reforms in the government.
Mr. Lukashenko said it was “normal practice”. Now he emphasizes that the formation of the future cabinet has been going on for about six months and that he has no plans to change the entire government.
“The complete transformation would be bad, because everyone is struggling with an unprecedented economic crisis, the consequences of which will be very painful.” Therefore, a full review is not necessary at all.
A new generation of leaders has grown. They worked well in government, so why change them? They can continue working, “Lukashenko said Wednesday.
Previously, Lukashenko explained that “after registering the current president as a presidential candidate, we always announce a new composition of the government before the elections.” According to him, the strategy aims to increase voter confidence.
The current government has been in office since August 18, 2018; It was chaired by Prime Minister Sergei Rumas.
