“We are forced to take the troops off the streets. As I said, half the army will arm and close the state border with the West, first of all with Lithuania and Poland. We are forced to strengthen the state border, with great regret, with our fraternal Ukraine, Lukashenko said at the Women’s Forum.

He said he was sending “half the army” to strengthen the protection of the western borders.

Mr. Lukashenko added that he will strengthen the protection of the state of the Union with the help of the Russian authorities.

“In recent days, I have been forced to work with the Russian president and the defense minister to create a common defense for the state of the Union,” he said Thursday.

As tut.by writes, he added that he did not want the country to go to war.

“All the more I do not want Belarus, Poland, Lithuania to become a theater of military action, where our problems will not be solved,” he said.

It has been previously written that if Belarus closed the border with Lithuania and Poland, it would also suffer, because imports would stop, just as exports, which bring revenue to the state budget, would stop.

In his speech on Thursday night, Lukashenko mentioned a “catastrophic scenario” and the need to defend themselves if they (Poland and Lithuania – aut. Post) come to Belarus.

The Belarusian media write that if the borders are closed, citizens will be prohibited from crossing the border.
