“We evaluate the actions and processes that have been carried out on the state border since November. It is worth mentioning that the number of violations of the state border on the Lithuanian-Belarusian border has increased, as well as the number of citizens of the Republic of Belarus arriving to the territory of Lithuania for special humanitarian reasons and request asylum, ”R. Liubajev told reporters.

According to him, from August to December 20, 347 Belarusian citizens arrived in Lithuania for special humanitarian reasons and with the permission of the Minister of the Interior, and 74 applied for asylum in Lithuania.

“When assessing the situation in our neighboring countries, Latvia or Poland, it should be noted that twice as many citizens came to the territory of the Republic of Poland to request asylum or special humanitarian reasons,” said the head of the SBGS.

Speaking about the transport situation at the border checkpoints, R. Liubajev said that the queues were due to the holiday period.

“The pre-holiday period is characterized by increased flow across the state border, generating queues at the Lithuanian-Belarusian state border checkpoints. Today, the largest queue is at the Medininkai checkpoint. On average, about a thousand trucks pass through this checkpoint every day, ”he said.

According to R. Liubajev, currently about 350 cars are waiting to leave Lithuania, as well as to enter.
