The LSDP has included the following sentence in the 2020 Seimas electoral program: “We will adopt the Association Law, which will allow same-sex couples to legalize their family relationships.”

However, 5 of the 13 representatives of this party voted “against” the amendments to the Association Law during the presentation to the Seimas, two more parliamentarians did not participate in the vote.

According to A. Rudomanskis, president of the Tolerant Youth Association, this was one of the reasons why he decided to leave the party.

And in it, the politician said that he faced both a homophobic attitude and gossip.

Encourage others to consider membership

“I’m leaving the LSDP party. More than 10 years of active activity, despite homophobic consent on the first day of joining the organization.

While in the party, I have always encouraged my party colleagues to discover and understand the social democratic values of freedom, equality and solidarity.

Personally, I have repeatedly had to put up with hatred, disgusting gossip, deliberate blocks against myself or loved ones in order to be able to carry out activities at the party, etc.

When Gintautas Paluckas became president, the culture in the party started to improve, but unfortunately, the breakthrough did not come, ”A. Rudomanskis wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.

“The leader of leftist convictions called on my friends and colleagues to help in solidarity and contribute to the strengthening of the values of freedom and equality.

Together with them, we carry out trainings, conferences, form internal party organizational groups, carry the LSDP flag to human rights events, establish international relations with the European left, write countless articles, participate in various television programs, write laws, campaigns electoral, etc. .

However, today I urge everyone I invited to the party to consider taking part without haste, because I no longer ask you to stay at LSDP, decide for yourself, ”he continued.

I wanted to go back to the values on the left.

A. Rudomanskis assured that he understands that for most of the members of the LSDP in the Seimas it is “less human”.

“In the context of the presentation of the association bill, I realized that I am less human to the majority of the LSDP members, sincerely supported representatives in the Seimas.

Even the Conservatives outperformed LSDP, which classifies itself as a European team of progressives.

Even the Conservatives outperformed LSDP, which classifies itself as a European team of progressives.

I am ashamed and disappointed that those who profess the true values of the left have not debated human rights for decades; the true left guarantees not only equal rights but also opportunities. Because people live here and now ”, he commented.

A. Rudomanskis appealed to Facebook friends and friends in real life and asked them not to complain about the LSDP:

“I have always been an active and militant defender of human rights; he was wrong to blame and blame LSDP members who do not support human rights.”

Leaving the party to its newly elected president Vilija Blinkevičiūtė, A. Rudomanskis wanted to turn left.

“I go out without anyone and I think we will cooperate with some of my former teammates in the future, because there are really like-minded people in the party.

“In leaving the LSDP, I would like to wish that the newly elected president and her team turn to the left, despite the party’s bulldozer, which often runs unhindered through human rights and opportunities, protection of workers against exploitation and progress, “he said concluded on Facebook.

Angry that the LSDP “didn’t budge”

Political scientist L. Gudžinskas also lamented how his fellow Social Democrats voted when introducing the Association Law in the Seimas.

“I am angry and disappointed as a Social Democrat because we have not moved in four years. Unlike most other parliamentary parties. The composition of the faction changed strongly, the percentage remained almost the same.

I take personal responsibility for not communicating enough with our group members when explaining why this law is necessary.

If, during the next vote, the support of the Social Democrats for the association institute remains the same or falls, I will consider in vain my further efforts to achieve the ideological renewal of the party. I will make the right decisions, “he wrote on Facebook.

L. Gudžinskas also thanked the members of the Seimas, “who are not always respected and protected the rights and dignity of each person.”

Algirdas Sysas, the largest of the Social Democratic faction in the Seimas, was one of those who registered the draft Association Law, but the politician immediately warned that not everyone in the faction supports these amendments.

The Seimas rejected the project on the legalization of the gender neutral association by majority vote: after the presentation, 63 members of the Seimas voted in favor, against 58, seven abstained.

On another vote, the draft was returned to the initiators for improvement. The latter expects him to return to the Seimas in the fall session.
