LRT salaries shocked the public, compare them with the salaries of the heads of the country and institutions – Respublika.lt

Complete chaos

2019 LRT Financial Report publishes what wages are paid at this workplace. As Vakaro žinios wrote, CEO Monika Garbačiauskaitė-Budrienė received around 5.9 thousand. monthly salary (before taxes), Head of the Administration and Operations Department, Tomas Rytel, around 8.3 thousand. Ričardas Baltaduonis, head of the Internet department, even more than 10 thousand euros. euro or more than the country’s president and almost twice as much as the prime minister.

Known representatives from various areas of Lithuania interviewed by Vakaro žinios unanimously agree that the situation is abnormal.

Prof. economist Povilas Gylys says that the commentary on the situation should be divided into two parts: one part on the unconscious proportion of public sector wages (more precisely – disproportion) and one part on the absurd relationship between the wages paid by LRT and the quality of the services provided by LRT.

“The first part is that the public sector wage system is completely chaotic and unfair. Let’s move away from who is the president of today, who is the prime minister or president of the Seimas today, move away from the names of the ministers. But let’s respond to ourselves: is the role of the president responsible, is the role of the prime minister responsible or is it the role of the responsible minister? We will all accept that he is responsible for requiring special qualifications. But we can distance ourselves from the politicians. Here the FNTT guide gets almost three times less than the LRT internet guide. What, your work is three times less dignified? After all, this job requires special competence, the job is dangerous because you encounter criminal structures, “emphasized P. Gylys.

Salaries do not depend on quality.

According to him, wages must also correspond to the quality of work.

“If the LRT carried out its mission, it would still be possible to suffer.” However, instead of informing the public, the LRT misinforms it. Rather than supervising politicians as watchdogs, they are involved in politics and, in my opinion, carry out political orders. And that is anti-political.

Generally speaking, such work must be deducted from salary. If taxpayers do not get the product they pay, wages must be eliminated. And LRT also pays thousands of commercial supplements to salary. What about commercial accessories? After all, LRT is a national broadcaster. However, it turns out that they are somehow “faking and depositing” money into their personal income. Is there an order here? “The economist asked rhetorically.

Returning to the disproportions in public sector wages, the professor emphasized that the salaries of the heads of state should be significantly higher than those paid to the LRT. After all, if the government malfunctions, then the LRT will also receive less money, because a part of the GDP is transferred to the budget sender, and the size of the GDP depends directly on the applied policy.

“As far as I remember, the LRT annual budget is approximately 44 million euros. And what do we get for that? Nonsense, or pole orders. And any variety of opinions that do not dance on the air in the LRT bag are undesirable”, P. Gylys summed up.

Bullied artists

“I would say a lot: let them eat if necessary. This means that there is a gap somewhere in the law, their wages must be provided by legal acts, and not determined by oneself,” actress Larisa Kalpokaitė was angry.

She says that huge salaries might not be a shame if at least the quality was ideal.

“It just caught our eye then. For some, the network of LRT programs is better, for others, worse. What is the current one? You know, I will tell you directly: if I express my opinion, I will receive sanctions,” the actress briefly evaluated. the situation.

Prof. painter Giedrius Kazimierėnas also spoke rather cautiously, because he did not want to be mad at LRT management. So waiting for the station to announce a program would be arrogant.

“I can only say that the LRT should improve the diversity of opinions, communicate with the public. The LRT must have the strength to stay away from the content of commercial channels and fulfill its duty to the state. There is a law that governs public information and it must be enforced. I don’t want to discuss the content of the LRT. And due to the size of the salaries, I, as an artist, am very far from economic things. But you need to have common sense, “G. Kazimierėnas taught.

Deadlock situation

The leader of the “peasants”, the president of the Seimas Culture Committee, Ramūnas Karbauskis, evaluated it very simply: the situation is abnormal.

“There are many doubts about LRT activities. The LRT Council, which heads the LRT, will have more rights under the law from January and hopefully exercise them properly. But now the picture is that the independence of the LRT is being used to other purposes: not for an impartial ether, but vice versa. We all notice that the ether is very partial. And when we see what wages are paid, the natural question immediately arises for all: for what?

If it were a commercial station, it would still be half the problem as it stands on its own. However, you, I, and all other taxpayers maintain the LRT. And when this is the case, there is no responsibility, it is possible to carry out political orders, prepare fashion reports, because for the LRT it is completely irrelevant that the public no longer trust it. Still, its financing is assured. And there is no possibility to change anything. Everyone thinks that the Seimas is omnipotent. However, if we try to limit wages (which, as far as I understand, LRT management approves it together with the LRT Council), we would immediately apply to the Constitutional Court, which would undoubtedly clarify that this is interference in the activities of an independent radio station ”, stated R. Karbauskis.

Funding is only increasing

He recalled that the Constitutional Court has been asked to clarify whether the current procedure, where LRT financing depends solely on the country’s GDP, is correct. The politician hopes that the Constitutional Court will allow to change the financing procedure. So, for example, budget grants could depend on the quality of the LRT’s work, whether the mission is carried out, etc.

What products does LRT produce? You should carry out the mission, but carry out political orders and pursue your own objectives. As soon as it begins to explain whether LRT’s activities are transparent, the LRT Investigation Service immediately prepares a biased report about it: it is a means of pressure on the disobedient. LRT can afford it, because, as I said, reputation is not important to him, after all, funding doesn’t depend on viewing. What if your publication loses its reputation and nobody buys it anymore? Everyone would have to take a walk and close the newspaper. No one will close the LRT. Furthermore, despite the quality of the work, its financing is only growing, because the GDP of all of Lithuania is growing ”, summarized R. Karbauskis.

We announce the salaries of the heads of the country and the institutions to compare them with the salaries of the LRT administration:

* Ministers’ salaries differ due to the large difference between their length of service to the state, Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius receives the highest salary
