“The icing on Nida was photographed yesterday. This happens when there is a strong east wind, high waves in the lagoon, and negative air temperatures. These three factors must be present at the same time ”, says R. Kilinskaitė, author of the photos.

According to her, the east wind from the lagoon is not predominant at Curonian Spit. Winds from the west or northwest are more common on the coast, so this phenomenon “is not very common, but it does happen.”
“In general, the fall and winter seasons at Curonian Spit are characterized by strong winds and storms, so if the temperature drops below freezing at that time, we can see the most interesting ice sculptures on the coast,” he says .
Covered in icicles during the dark hours of the day, Nida looks no less stunning: Aušra Feser, director of the Curonian Spit National Park, shared her views.
