IT professionals just laugh. It is worth a lot if you are not an unskilled specialist, but not an official trying to handle an emergency situation, Info TV Info Day reported.
Having typically received 40 asylum applications a month, they now receive as many a day. The Immigration Department doesn’t have enough people to review them, so it published a search for up to 56 employees. Never before has so much been sought.
“The workload has increased enormously, so we need more hands,” said Lucija Voišnis, deputy director of the Migration Department.
The Immigration Department says the job is fun and dynamic. The conditions are flexible, it is not necessary to work in Vilnius, it is also possible from home or by the sea.
And not much is required of the employee: higher education, knowledge of English and Russian at B2 level, knowledge of legal acts.
“They will examine asylum applications, conduct interviews with asylum seekers, evaluate documents and need lawyers. Lawyers will be needed as complaints will have to be examined,” explained L. Voišnis.
The specialists and lawyers of the Asylum Department are attracted by the Migration Department for € 1,257 “on paper or € 800 by hand. This is less than the average salary in the first quarter of this year.
Probably the salary offered to the highest paid IT representative is a smile.
“We are not looking for people, we are looking for robots,” said Mindaugas Ubartas, director of the Infobalt association.
The job offered is temporary
The Immigration Department hopes that salary will motivate them to work, even if the job is only temporary. 56 professionals would work only while the emergency was in effect and for another six months after that.
If the job of processing applications is being enjoyable for you, you can apply for a permanent position later. But specialists remain strict: in the country’s emergency situation, 1,900 refugees crossed the border illegally. Who would want to manage a situation like this for 800 euros?
“There is such a critical situation when this issue is relevant, and we cannot find employees, because neither that salary nor the situation motivates. Because overtime will certainly be guaranteed, as well as the question of whether they will be able to afford it, ”commented Andrius Stasiukynas, Director of the Leadership and Public Administration Program at Mykolas Romeris University.
The department cannot offer more, although it would like to. In May of this year, the average salary was even lower than last year.
“We think our salaries are low and we think they should go up,” Voišnis said.
The Department of Migration depends on the Ministry of the Interior. The Deputy Minister admits that the salary is not competitive, but overtime payments and bonuses are also provided. So hopefully there are people who want to work, maybe students.
“We have adopted amendments to the legislation in which it is possible to transfer workers from one service to the migration service. This would be Plan B if we did not find employees for the Migration Department,” said Sigita Ščajavienė, Deputy Minister of the Interior.
The Migration Department currently employs 460 people. The European Border and Coast Guard Agency has promised the Home Office to provide asylum experts if there is a shortage of our own.
