The Mayor of Palanga, Šarūnas Vaitkus, previously announced that the tourist accommodation ban should be lifted only on May 11, however, Delfi wrote earlier that during the long weekend in May, people were unwilling to sit at home. and flooded the city streets on Saturday.
The president of the Palanga city community, Santarvė, told the news portal that people really missed the coast and that there was no shortage of newcomers due to the good weather.
“We really did notice an increase in visitor numbers during the long weekend in May, although we didn’t see any big gatherings.” Sure, the locals also went out to enjoy the good weather, but they know more remote places and try to stay there longer.
And those who come, of course, want to walk down Basanavičiaus Street, walk towards the bridge. However, it is gratifying to see that visitors were wearing protective gear: we saw that people were wearing masks, some with gloves. Probably the most gratifying thing is that people are indifferent to this situation, “he explained.
The interviewee also emphasized that people who rent their apartments to tourists do not really violate the accommodation ban.
“We really haven’t realized that there are more vehicles in the yards of such residents.”

I received many calls
Rasa Kmitienė, director of the Palanga Tourist Information Center, said the number of people who arrived was actually higher, but could not provide an exact number.
“Visually, it was really possible to see it, both from Facebook and from photos in the media, but we don’t have a methodology to say exactly how many people visited the city.” Even before the long weekend, our center received many calls, asking when accommodation services will be allowed. As soon as we found out and announced that it would be allowed to do so starting May 11, we received inquiries about which hotels would be the first to provide those services. It is true that all reservations are generally made through special reservation systems. “
According to the manager, the majority of those interested are residents of Lithuania, but some foreigners are also interested in tourism in Palanga. R. Kmitienė predicted that next summer we will probably receive them from neighboring countries, from which Lithuania can be reached more freely by car.
“Although the flow has increased, it must be emphasized that many people in Palanga have their second home. Some rest in these accommodations, part of the course visits family or friends. On the other hand, all these visitors are guests of our city and use the services from public institutions. “It is gratifying that local entrepreneurs are trying to meet quarantine requirements,” he explained.
The manager also mentioned that everyone is already expecting normal tourist reception again.
Klaipeda County Andromeda Grauslienė, LSC Head of Communications, commented that additional forces are always deployed in Palanga during quarantine on weekends, and over the long weekend 143 protocols were developed in this resource for KET violations and Article 45 of the Code of Administrative Offenses. only 1 protocol was written for the violation.
“Most people wore masks in public, but not everyone kept their distance, many people, especially in parks, beaches, as well as many cyclists,” the spokesperson summarized.
