Lithuania’s oldest city will celebrate its birthday: flags, blue dinner and an opera flying in the harbor

This year, for the first time, Klaipeda’s birthday celebration will be more visible: the raising of the city’s flags will take place in several different locations at once and will be broadcast live on the Internet. The festive program will begin at 12 noon. at Klaipėda Town Hall (Danės St. 17), from where, accompanied by the sounds of the Klaipėda Brass Quintet, they will be transported by water to the Klaipėda Castle Site (Vastpilio St. 2), Cruise Terminal (Pilies St. 4 ), Lithuanian Maritime Museum (Smiltynės St. 3) and Jonas Hill (Turgaus St. 37). At 1 p.m., with music by Giunter Percussion, folk ensemble Alka and artists J. Švirinas, K. Petkus, V. Krasnopiorovas, they will wave brightly colored flags in the port city skies.

From 2.30 p.m. at 7.30 p.m. Excursions will take place in the North Kurtina of the Castle Museum (Vastpilio St. 2), giving visitors a unique opportunity to view exhibits on the 16th and 18th centuries created by museologists and the Klemencov design studio Group. 3pm and 5pm The site of Klaipeda Castle will be rocked by youthful and energetic performances by the Percussion Ensemble Giunter Percussion. The founder of the ensemble is Pavel Giunter, one of the most famous Lithuanian percussionists, a soloist who plays classical, modern, folk, popular and jazz music. Sigitas Gailius, Tomas Kulikauskas, Andrius Rekašius and Pavel Giunter are currently playing together.
