Passenger transport company LG Passengers announces the launch of a market consultation on fleet renewal.

The new technology is expected to guarantee a comfortable journey for passengers with different needs, in addition to significantly reducing environmental pollution.

Linas Baužys, director of LG Passengers, cited in the report, says the updates are backed by market inquiries and, according to the information received, a public procurement will be formed and announced. Its value is estimated to exceed 200 million. EUR.

“It is necessary to renew the fleet of passenger vehicles, because some of the trains are technologically obsolete, do not correspond to modern travel habits and are not adapted to people with individual needs.” The more comfortable and modern trains we have, the better the travel experience, ”says L. Baužys.

The company estimates that the renewal of the train fleet and the movement of the trains in the newly electrified sections will reduce the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) released into the environment by approximately 7 million per year. kg. With the introduction of new electric trains on the Vilnius-Klaipėda main railway line, modern diesel trains, together with newly purchased equipment, will replace the old trains currently running on regional routes.

The contract for the purchase of new trains is planned to be signed by the end of next year. The final options and technical characteristics will become clear after the completion of the market consultation and the evaluation of financing possibilities. The company plans to buy the trains using its own funds and attracting EU funds. LG points out that Estonia and Poland have also bought new trains, partly financed by EU funds (Cohesion Fund, ERDF, etc.).

The objective of this EU funding is to develop rail transport as one of the strongest environmental components. Train travel is estimated to be the least polluting.
