This year, the Lithuanian Press Photography 2020 competition, which was run for 19 years, received more than 3,700 photos from 120 photographers across Lithuania.
This year, seven photographers received the Marco Dorado Awards: Saulius Žiūra (news category), Andrius Repšys (life category), Tadas Kazakevičius (portrait and reportage categories), Kęstutis Vanagas (culture and entertainment category), Ieva Budzeikaitė ( army category), Rolandand Parafinavičius category (sports category), Ramūnas Danisevičius (nature and his protection category). The colleagues’ award went to Richard Grig.
As every year, the photographs were evaluated by a competent international competition commission, whose members this year were professional photographers Stefano Schirato (Italy), Sergey Maksimyshin (Russia), Artūras Morozovas (Lithuania); Head of Moteris magazine, the editor Ieva Rekštytė – Matuliauskė and the young winner of the creator’s award, the director Aistė Žegulytė. The Commission was particularly pleased with the abundance of interesting and unexpected shots in the Portrait, Entertainment and Military categories. Furthermore, the abundance of photo series and the growing artistic and narrative quality of the series made an impression. The Commission also noted that Lithuanian photographers pay less and less attention to random moments in life: this year, the “Life” category was dominated by photos from various national news and events, and there were few interesting images of everyday life.
The Lithuanian Press Photographers Club, which has been organizing this traditional national competition since 2002, will transfer powers to organize the competition to the Lithuanian Union of Journalists and its Division of “Press Photographers” and the National Association of Creators of Journalists from next year.
The best works of Lithuanian press photographers can be seen in the exhibition “Lithuanian Press Photography 2020”, which will be exhibited at the Vilnius City Hall until May 30, and then travel to other Lithuanian cities.
