Exploring Vilnius through the eyes of Americans
Blog Jack and Gab explore Owners Jack and Gab visited two traditional pubs and a bakery in the heart of the old town while visiting Vilnius. The latter fascinated travelers with a dish brought to Lithuania by the Karaites: kibinas, which are traditionally made from minced meat and delicious butter dough.
The couple of travelers also tried the cold borscht seduced by the color and the pig’s ear, both dishes turned out to be quite exotic. Bloggers liked potato dishes much more: potato pancakes, Vedas, and zeppelins. And the pigeons received the highest praise: their equivalent was tried by travelers in Romania, but the Lithuanian dish made a much better impression.
A Canadian look at Lithuanian cuisine
Canadian traveler Eileen Aldis and her friend Marc arrived in Vilnius last winter and went to a real Lithuanian party. Joking that she had been preparing for such a dinner for a long time, Eileen tried Lithuanian drinks, sandwiches, soups, main dishes, and desserts. On the travelers’ table were kvass, toast, Lithuanian cheese and castin, and later – mushroom soup and cold borscht.
For the main course, Eileen and Marc chose zeppelins, potato pancakes, and fried bacon, and for dessert, branched and lazy, perfect for steaming raspberry tea and coffee. Lithuanian cuisine fascinated travelers so much that it was too difficult to choose their favorite dishes!
A day of adventure in Vilnius
Channel Jess is a search The owner, traveler Jessica Fynn for a short stay in Vilnius for lunch, visited one of the bars in the old town and tried … beaver stew and game sausages. We often forget that gambling is part of the culinary heritage, but foreign tourists remind us of this.
In addition to unusual meat dishes, travelers also had to try mead, which was reminiscent of Christmas due to its sweet smell.
Recommendations for nomads
Traveling with Kristin The channel’s owner, Kristin Wilson, traveled through Lithuania for two weeks with travel blogger Johnny Jen and noted that the food in Lithuania is very seasonal: products available are used at that time of year, so the food is fresh and exclusive. One of those dishes is the refreshing cold summer borscht, which has become one of Kristin’s top recommendations. Potato dishes, which can be enjoyed year-round, and local beer also attracted attention.
