Modesta Morauskaitė and Agnė Šerkšnienė, who ran 400 m, will continue their performance in the semi-finals of the European Championship, while Jogailė Petrokaitė came in ninth; the best result of her career did not help her reach the final.

M.Morauskaitė was particularly surprised in the 400m selection competition: the Lithuanian overcame the distance in 52.52 seconds. and even 0.53 sec. improved his personal record. The runner registered the seventh result among 39 participants.

“I’m really incredibly happy, both goals have been achieved, both the semi-finals and the personal record. I knew I couldn’t afford to run free just for the sake of the position, as defending champion Lea Sprunger from Switzerland was a A strong Irishman, an Italian, he raced in my career. I knew it was necessary to run from the beginning and fight to the end, – commented M. Morauskaitė. – I really expected a similar result, because the training sessions went very well. In the last training sessions, both legs were loaded and the weight was lowered. I knew I was ready for a really high result. “

Irish Phil Healy, who was the fastest of all the participants, finished first in the fifth qualifying round (52.00 sec.), Followed immediately by L. Sprunger (52.25 sec.). They won direct tickets to the semi-finals, while M. Morauskaitė had to wait for the remaining race results.

“When I saw who he was running with in the national team, the plan was to run after the two strongest girls. I did that, but figured the girl running from behind would block me a bit or try to run first (to common path – aut. Past). In fact, everything went perfectly, “said M. Morauskaitė happily.

A. Šerkšnienė, who participated in the last, seventh qualifying race, went straight to the semi-finals and finished second. Your result is 53.00 sec.

“The plan was to move on to the next stage, I am happy. Everything went well, I planned to lead this race. Of course, you never know, maybe another participant will jump after 200m, but that didn’t happen. After that I ran at my own pace, I didn’t feel any chaos, confusion. There will be stronger participants in the semi-finals, there can be everything there, – said A. Šerkšnienė. – I did not follow how the participants ran before, I did not know the times and I accumulated for my race. I wanted to get the big Q so I wouldn’t have to wait for the result. “

18 runners will participate in the semifinals on Friday night. Six athletes will advance to the finals: first and second place in each of the three races.

J. Petrokaitė performed well in the women’s long jump competition. The Lithuanian, who did not comply with the norm to participate in the championship, but received a nominal invitation, improved his personal record twice. In the first test he jumped 6.50 cm, in the second – 6.36 m, in the third – 6.53 m. The last ticket to the final was taken by Belarusian Nastasia Mironchik-Ivanova, who jumped just an additional two centimeters.

“It is both joy and resentment. It would be a great joy to have reached the final, but I am happy to have entered the European Championship because I had the opportunity to compete here. There is a bit of sadness, but I am happier – commented J. Petrokaitė. – It’s a shame I couldn’t see Španovič, but I know these women almost like my five fingers as jumpers. It’s really an honor to compete with them at that level. “

The Lithuanian athlete, who started the competition successfully, even led the team for a time. Hopes of reaching the final were dashed only in the middle of the decisive jumps, when we were overtaken by German athletics star Malaika Mihambo.

“I wanted to dance about 6.60 m today. Watching the panels jump, I thought it would take a little more than 20 feet. There were no great miracles, I was waiting for the final, but I didn’t make it ”, smiled J. Petrokaitė.

We remind you that on the first day of the championship, the qualifying barrier was crossed by the high jumper Adrijus Glebauskas, who will compete in the final on Sunday.
