“After the elections in Belarus, Lithuania temporarily suspended all payments for joint projects for Belarus. We are currently awaiting clarification from the European Commission regarding the further course of the program,” Deputy Interior Minister Tautvydas informed BNS. Tamulevičius.

“The total amount of suspended payments is 5.8 million. This decision was made evaluating the emerging risks, due to the use of appropriate funds,” said the deputy minister.

The Reuters news agency reported for the first time on the suspension of payments of millions of euros.

In recent days, reports have appeared in the Lithuanian and international media that the Belarusian police have purchased drones with funds from the European Union, and Lithuania has also participated in this project.

Lithuanian police say they transferred the money from the European Commission received under the project to the Belarusian State Forensic Committee in May, three months before the presidential elections, which were followed by protests and police crackdown on protesters.

According to the Lithuanian police, the Belarusians themselves bought the equipment.
