“The situation has become even more complicated, because now it is not entirely clear who to talk to in Belarus. Maybe we just need to talk to Russia here. But we see that the situation is really difficult. Until now, there has been no dialogue as well. that now we cannot expect it to be more successful, ”L. Linkevičius told News Radio on Tuesday.
Of course, that dialogue with Belarus was always very complicated, there were practically two monologues. Both our questions and those of international organizations that deal with nuclear safety have not been answered, “he added.
The Minister emphasized that after receiving notifications of the intention to start up the first reactor of the nuclear power plant in early November, Lithuania must reiterate its demands to Belarus.
“We have received guarantees that the power plant will be commissioned in the near future, at the beginning of November, although statements have been made earlier that the commissioning of this facility will be delayed at least one year. Of course, we must reiterate our most important demands, and that electricity from an unsafe nuclear plant exported from aggressive countries, as provided in our laws, does not enter the Baltic States, “he said.
L. Linkevičius mentioned that one of the key economic problems of the Astravas nuclear power plant is that there is nowhere to export products.
“The problems of this object are very objective: there is nowhere to export the products (…). And, of course, this is a difficult situation in economic terms. Although the project is not economic, but geopolitical, it still has to be somewhat justified, and these problems hinder it, ”said the Minister.
