In March-April, Lietuvos Paštas will lay off some 380 employees when the implementation of the smart package distribution program is completed.

This change, which was agreed in advance with the representatives of the company’s employees, is being implemented with the start of operations of the modern logistics center in Vilnius. Its opening allowed the automation and centralization of parcel distribution activities, while significantly reducing the need for labor.

According to the company, more efficient processes will create opportunities not only to improve the quality of services provided to customers, but also to improve the working conditions of employees more quickly.

“The modernization of Lithuanian Post’s activities is necessary for the company to meet the growing expectations of customers, increase the quality of services, be able to compete successfully in the market and offer better conditions to employees. The smart parcel delivery program, the base of which, the Vilnius Logistics Center, which started operating a few months ago, is a key element of the company’s renewal and a project of strategic importance for the whole of Lithuania. It will allow us to work much faster and more efficiently, but at the same time it means that some of the functions performed so far will simply cease to exist, because they will be automated, ”the report cites Asta Sungailienė, General Director of Lithuania Post.

Due to the automation and centralization of the parcel distribution activities, the need for employees working in Kaunas and the regional logistics centers will decrease, and the parcel distributor position at the post offices will not be maintained. However, during the implementation of this project, new more competitive jobs were created in different regions of Lithuania.

The decision to implement the smart package distribution program was made more than 3 years ago. Due to changes related to dismissals and dismissals, Lietuvos Paštas carried out information and consultation procedures with the company’s workers’ representatives.

“It is important to note that the implemented project will allow a further improvement of working conditions for all Lithuanian Post employees. This is a long-term strategic objective of the company, which will guarantee competitive remuneration for the people who work for us, in addition to creating the conditions to attract new skills to the organization ”, says A. Sungailienė.

Lithuanian postal staff specialists will provide laid-off employees with professional consultations on job search issues. The company also works closely with the Employment Service, which can offer laid-off workers other positions in organizations operating in the regions.

Currently, more than 4 thousand people work in the Lithuanian post. workers.
