FIBA adopted sanctions after Lietkabelis was dissatisfied with the decision of the Basketball Court of Arbitration (BAT), which ordered the Panevėžys club to reach an agreement with former defender Kendrick Brown and his representatives for the 2019 contract to end. unilaterally.

In addition, the residents of Panevėžys applied to the Swiss Federal Supreme Court for annulment of the BAT decision. However, the claim was rejected.

At the same time, as Lietkabelis did not implement BAT’s verdict regarding compensation to K. Brown, FIBA ​​imposed sanctions on Lietkabel.

Lietkabelis initiated a legal dispute with K. Brown after 2019-2020. start of season.

“The cooperation with the American did not live up to expectations, so both parties decided to take different paths,” Lietkabelis officially reported in November 2019, when the club terminated the one-year contract a few months later.

The people of Panevėžys decided to refuse the services of K Brownas both because of a game that did not meet expectations and because of a lack of discipline.

An American in Lithuania was listed in the police records. In October 2019, the newcomer was charged in Panevėžys with attacking the driver of another car and strangling him. However, Brown apologized to the victim, reached a compromise, and the pre-trial investigation was terminated.

The legionnaire, whom Lietkabelis asked, founded a new team – Aris of Thessaloniki, but demanded compensation for the terminated contract at Panevėžys.

Octagon Europe’s lawyer, Sabin Gherdan, won the court. BAT established that K Brown was correct in this dispute and ordered Lietkabel to pay K Brown about 57.6 thousand. for its representatives Maciej Schwarz and Saulius Švetkauskas – 3.9 and 5.14 thousand euros, respectively. EUR and cover another 17 thousand. legal expenses in euros.

In total, this MTD solution would cost Lietkabel at least 83.5 thousand LTL. euros.

If Lietkabelis does not comply with the sentence, FIBA ​​threatens additional sanctions. Among them – 150 thousand. Fine or ban of Swiss francs (139.4 thousand euros) for participating in international tournaments.

It is true that Lietkabelis can still appeal against FIBA’s ban on registering new players within two weeks.
