Ph. Spector’s death was found Saturday and “the official cause of death will be determined by a medical expert,” the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said in a statement.
The man died at the age of 82.
Phillip Spector is the author of the Wall of Sound music recording method, sound director and lyricist who has worked with John Lennon, Tina Turner, and The Ramones.
Spector rose to the pinnacle of success in the 20th century. In the 1960s and 2003, he found himself at the epicenter of a gruesome investigation into the murder of actress Lana Clarkson. She was found dead in Mr. Spector’s California villa. Although he testified that the actress had committed suicide at her home, extensive evidence had been gathered that Spector had killed the actress. He was convicted of second degree murder and in 2009 he was sentenced to 19 years in prison.
The producer was married twice and had five children.
