Playing for a fantastic season, Nikola Jokičius won the NBA regular season best basketball player award.
The Athletic’s Shams Charania reports that the Denver Nuggets leader has been recognized as the most helpful basketball player of the season.
He, along with Philadelphia 76ers winner Joel Embiid and Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry, were key candidates for the title.
The 26-year-old Serbian’s career leap is unprecedented in NBA annals.
It emerged in 2014. Being invited to the NBA rookie for the 41st call-up. This is the lowest call in history to win the MVP award.
Before that, the achievement belonged to Gianni Antetokounmpo and Steve Nash, to whom the NBA opened its doors with 15 calls.
At the same time, Jokičius’ victory is historic for the Nuggets club. To date, no player on the team has been able to obtain such recognition.
Overall, the Serbian basketball player became the third European to win the MVP trophy: in 2007 it was for German Dirk Nowitzki, and in 2019 and 2020 for Greek Gianni Antetokounmpo.
No one missed a single game in the regular season – they posted 26.4 points, 10.8 rebounds, 8.3 assists and 3.1 errors in 72 games.
The Nuggets finished third in the Western Conference, just ahead of the Phoenix Suns (51-21) and the Utah Jazz (52-20).
The Denver team beat the Portland Trail Blazers 4-2 in the first playoff round and failed in the second against the Suns.
Curry, who played in his career season, amassed 32 points, 5.8 assists and 5.5 rebounds in 63 games. He was ninth in the West in the final standings for the Warriors.
Injured Embiidas played 51 games in the regular season, averaging 28.5 points, grabbing 10.5 balls and making 2.8 assists.
The 76ers Club won first place in the Eastern Conference.
