Portal People.lt Contacting lawyer Lina Andriuškevičienė, she said that Lavrinovičiai is still considering whether to go to court because of the events of the last week. According to the lawyer, two different concepts of “morality” and “law” were obviously confused.
According to Lina Andriuškevičienė, Statements by Erica and Jurgis Didžiuliai it had a negative impact not only on the siblings, but also on their environment, their families.
Public address of the Lavrinovich brothers:
Today in the public space, we learned the position of Jurgis Didžiulis that the execution of a sentence 16 years ago basically means nothing, because “for a certain segment, for a certain part of the people, it can be painful.” According to J. Didžiulis, it is now the opposite, the achievements we have made send a signal that “nobody cares about this and nobody takes violence against women seriously”.
The question is: who doesn’t care? We care, we are sorry, we have served our sentence. In accordance with all the laws of the Republic of Lithuania. And we follow them. The law says that we have redeemed the guilt against society. But almost 20 years later, this situation intensifies again and again, and now it is presented to us as a reminder of the suffering of all women who have experienced violence.
Therefore, in accordance with the applicable legal norms, we have the right to demand that we are not called “convicted rapists” and that we are no longer associated with the crime, because, as mentioned, it is imperative in the law: we have served our sentence and we have the right to a full public life.
Our bio basically conveys the message that negative action comes with unavoidable responsibility. We recognized this responsibility and we served our sentence. Therefore, the goal now is to form a public opinion that we are not worthy of the status of full members of society, that we have to limit our public cultural, economic, social activities, which fundamentally violates rights, honor and the dignity not only of us but also of our families.
Active public figures, when they post stigmatizing records about us in order to remind the public of our “criminal past” and thus limit our ability to fully participate in public life, underestimate the fact that their own actions are in line with the Code. Criminal: “Person who has carried out actions aimed at preventing a group of people or a person belonging to him from participating in economic, social, cultural or other activities on an equal basis with others due to his social condition.
As long as we live in the rule of law, we hope that your actions will be evaluated by the competent authorities.
