Officials found illegal smokers after inspecting the “Man” truck driven by a Ukrainian citizen entering Belarus from Belarus, reports the Criminal Customs Service.
The Ukrainian said he was driving empty to his workplace in Poland, but one of the Vilnius territorial customs officers was suspected of having the floor of the tractor semitrailer. Walking through them, the officer got the impression that the floor was solid and no “echo” was heard, which is typical of empty cavities in tractor semi-trailer factories.
An inspection of the machine with a mobile X-ray monitoring system revealed that the floor of the semi-trailer was indeed littered with cigarette contraband. In total, officials found more than 17,000 there. Belarusian Fest smoking packages, the value of which, including taxes, is almost 60 thousand. euros.
A pre-trial investigation into this smuggling has been launched in the Vilnius section of the Criminal Customs Service, led by the Vilnius Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
The driver of the cigarette smuggling truck was detained for two months by decision of the Vilnius District Court.
