According to Gabrielius Landsbergis, president of the TS-LKD, this decision was made because these people had convinced their fellow group members that they could chair the meetings and mobilize people. The politician also assured that Aušrinė Norkienė, the candidate for vice president of the Seimas proposed by the “peasants”, “has no complaints.”
“We were looking for people who would first persuade our own faction, like the authorities who could preside over the sessions, to mobilize more than our faction, to also convince colleagues from other factions,” Landsbergis told reporters on the Seimas on Tuesday.
According to him, the objective was to have a representative of both the party and the Christian flank on the board.
“If we look at the board, the liberal representation is very bright and visible, the Freedom Party too. The union of the fatherland has such representation due to the size of its faction, “noted G. Landsbergis.
At the same time, the TS-LKD leader emphasized that the “peasant” candidate for the post of vice president of Seimas, A. Norkienė, was not indicted by the conservatives.
“We have no objection to the provision. If the Seimas spokesperson decides to nominate A. Norkienė, we will respect his decision. (…) There have been requests for guarantees, but this is the most authentic secret ballot. Even if the older of the faction says or someone demands, everyone goes to the polls (…) ”, said G. Landsbergis.
He did not hide the fact that opinions on the candidacy of A. Norkienė in the faction are different.
“Opinions are diverse, we have kept the free vote, it is not binding,” added the president of TS-LKD.
G. Landsbergis also stated that the candidates proposed by the faction, both R. Morkūnaitė-Mikulėnienė and P. Saudargas, could receive broad support from various parliamentarians.
