“This is the situation, with ongoing opposition protests in Belarus and government actions against the opposition, sanctions are being imposed in the EU and now a third package of sanctions has been introduced,” said the foreign minister. to reporters at the Seimas on Tuesday.

According to Landsberg, employee anxiety is understandable, but the state, he said, has offered compensation to help people who work at the sanitarium.

“It just came to our attention then. I can say that in the last month we have been looking for ways, both for this case and systematically for other cases in the future, if any, how the state could help the employees of the sanctioned companies, ”said G. Landsbergis.

The Minister also stressed that the sanctions imposed on said sanatorium were justified.

“There is a reason why those companies were sanctioned. (…) I immediately approached a commercial bank to unfreeze funds to pay the salaries of those people without debt to the state, and the Ministry of Social Security and Labor drafted a bill to provide them with additional help until they could find another job or something will change. “Said the chancellor.

Landsbergis also noted that the sanction process could be appealed.

“This process is being appealed, it can be appealed both in the Lithuanian courts and later in other instances before the European courts. If that question arises or seems correct to the company, they have the right to take advantage of it. I would like to point out that, at least until where I know, this has not been done before today, other means are being used, ”said Mr. Landsbergis.

“Political pressure is being used more, but I want to emphasize that the instruments of the state today are limited, we have done what we could and we are looking for ways to help these people,” said the minister.

He also reiterated that Lithuania has a political goal: for the Alexander Lukashenko-led regime in Belarus to end the ongoing crackdown on the opposition and innocent citizens.

“The state wants the regime to withdraw from Belarus, stop raping and beating members of the opposition – this is our political goal. It is necessary to understand who is really guilty of these sanctions. They are not introduced because of the actions of Lithuania, are imposed because of Lukashenko’s actions. It happens that Lukashenko’s closest favorites, the people who make the decisions and because of their actions against the opposition, still own property like companies or legal entities, and sometimes Lithuanian citizens work. Unfortunately, bringing profits and money to the criminals themselves, “Landsbergis said.

When asked why the Latvian sanatorium has not been sanctioned, the minister replied that it is run by three natural persons who are not sanctioned.

“We have checked both this package and the previous ones, so the situations are completely and radically different,” added Landsbergis.

On Tuesday in Druskininkai, employees of the “Belorus” sanatorium organized a protest action. Vladislav Šaruckij, president of the Labor Council of the sanatorium, said that employees were not satisfied with the proposed benefit in the amount of two months’ salary.

He said that a remote interview was held on Monday between the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Monika Navickienė, and representatives of the employees of the “Belorus” sanatorium.

“Yesterday we learned about the aid measures that the ministry is preparing for us. It offers benefits in the amount of two months’ salary to all who retire. We are not satisfied with this, let us let the sanatorium work, ”said the president of the Labor Council of Belarus.

When asked if the administration of the sanatorium was not trying to seek the help of its founder, the Board of Presidential Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, to transfer the institution to another non-sanctioned Belarusian institution, Sharukij acknowledged that these had already been taken. measurements.

“This is the next step if it can’t be resolved right now,” Sharucki said.

Belorus employees were left without income when the institution’s bank accounts were frozen due to sanctions imposed on the Belarusian Presidential Affairs Board. Lithuania applied an exception to salaries paid to sanitarium staff in December. Currently, according to V. Šaruckij, the salaries have already been paid.

The case of the Belarusian sanatorium is the first in the history of Lithuania, when international sanctions are applied to a company operating in the country.
