Landsbergis reacted in this way to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) 2020. the results of an employee survey, which revealed that Ministry employees are not satisfied with the current working conditions.

On Thursday, ELTA published a study of working conditions carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in which the ministry staff identified what they consider to be long-standing problems in the institution: limited access to the professional ladder, no reading of managers with subordinates, appointment of close friends, etc.

An investigation into working conditions has shown that the situation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, headed by former minister Linas Linkevičius, is one of the worst. The survey data revealed that 66% are satisfied with the opportunity to work in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. staff, 3 percentage points less than in 2017.

“For many years, the diplomatic service received no attention because diplomats were thought to ‘live well.’ Inattention ceased to be a concern until it became clear that people no longer wanted to work as diplomats, ”Landsbergis told Eltai.

Therefore, the minister acknowledges that the results of the study are worrying. According to G. Landsbergis, political appointments made in the ministry over many years did not contribute to the self-esteem of the diplomatic service.

“The results of the investigation are worrying, because it is important to understand that we are talking about people whose main task is to ensure the representation of the interests of the State and citizens. The frustration and demotivation in the diplomatic service is bad news for the state. The political appointments that had prevailed in the ministry for many decades, the unclear evaluation criteria and the so-called customary right to self-esteem of the diplomatic service obviously did not contribute ”, emphasized the foreign minister.

Mr Landsbergis underlines that the situation in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs must change. However, the Minister notes that the first changes have been initiated in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: amendments to the Law on Diplomatic Service have been adopted at the Seimas at his initiative.

“The situation in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs must change, the prestige of the diplomatic profession must be restored – we have already started the change – I speak first of the reforms to the Law of Diplomatic Service and the activities foreseen in the Plan of Action of the Government Program, “he said.
