Mr Landsberg welcomed the European Action Plan for Democracy proposed by the EC. This proposal is crucial to combat misinformation, strengthen the resistance of the elections to external forces and guarantee their transparency. During the conversation, the successful cooperation between the European Commission and Lithuania in preparing this plan was also highlighted.

“Now it is important to take concrete actions and implement this plan effectively,” the minister said.

G. Landsbergis drew V. Jourova’s attention to Russia’s actions against the Lithuanian judges who worked on the January 13 case. The Minister asked the European Commission to present proposals for a coordinated and joint response by the European Union to political search and extradition requests from third countries.

“We need a common European response to protect our citizens and prevent the use of Interpol’s systems for political purposes,” he said. With the agreement of the Vice President of the European Commission, it was agreed to coordinate the follow-up of this issue.

Mr Jourova, Vice-President of the European Commission, is responsible for the rule of law, the protection of democracy, human rights and the fight against disinformation.
