Minister G. Landsbergis affirmed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is also solving this situation.

“There is also the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the resolution of this evolving situation. Today, the Government announced a series of measures that will be specifically coordinated by the Government, the Prime Minister presented actions by the Government. I think it would be important to know the actions of the Ministry of Foreign Relations, of which we have started as a part ”, he said.

In a press conference, Foreign Minister G. Landsbergis highlighted three main challenges posed by the Foreign Ministry in this situation.

“The first and most important task that we have started to carry out immediately and that we are gradually regressing is to return people who have entered the territory of Belarus illegally to the countries where it would be safe to be or have left.” First of all, there have already been two meetings with the Turkish Foreign Minister, “Landsbergis said.

He said cooperation upon return had been discussed.

“As much of our knowledge passes through Turkish airports, we believe that Turkey has information on the identities of these people,” he explained.

The minister stated that the identification of the people who arrived in Lithuania is one of the most important tasks.

“We do not know people without documents, we cannot begin to return them. And that information is available for Turkey, “said G. Landsbergis.

The Minister said that the principle of the Turkish Foreign Minister was that they were ready to cooperate.

“Specific details will be discussed during the visit, which will be agreed next week,” the minister said.

Landsberg said he had also met with the Iraqi foreign minister a few weeks ago to talk about identifying people.

“We identify the people we identify, if possible, and return them after all the steps of the procedure. This is also important to reduce the burdens on the Lithuanian system and send a very clear signal to those who arrive: the border through Lithuania is not an easy way to get to the EU and stay here, ”explained the Foreign Minister.

The Foreign Minister stated that an information campaign had already been launched, which should spread the message that there is no easy way to get to Lithuania. It will be headed by former Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius.

And this information will be disseminated in the countries from which the largest number of illegal immigrants arrive in Lithuania.
