According to him, Chimki fired R. Kurtinaitis, but according to 24 sec. The 60-year-old journalist Donatas Urbono, from Lithuania, decided to resign as head coach of the team.
It is not yet clear exactly who will temporarily assume command of the team. It could be a Russian Andrei Maltsev or a Serbian Alexander Trifunovich.
Aurimas Jasilionis, the only Lithuanian, should remain on the team’s coaching staff.
R. Kurtinaitis leaves the Russian team after 12 consecutive defeats in the Euroleague.
In total, during the 20 games this season, the Lithuanian team coached by Lithuania achieved only 2 victories in the tournament and is the last one, 18th.
The last match lost to Istanbul’s Anadolu Efes team (60:99) on Thursday night became the biggest defeat for the Khimki team in the history of the team’s participation in the Euroleague.
Chimki’s biggest loss to date, 35 points, was in 2009-2010. Euroleague season. This time the team collapsed 66: 101 against Athens’ Panathinaikos. Sergio Scariolo was in charge of Chimkai in the aforementioned match, Paulius Jankūnas, who did not add a point, was among the players.

When the virus entered the team, R. Kurtinaitis continued the struggles in the Euroleague with a small group of players and did not postpone the match, which was then made by other teams, relying on the updated Euroleague regulations.
R. Kurtinaitis has led Chimki since January 2019, when Greek team Georgis Bartzok took over.
Overall, this was the second stage of the Lithuanian leadership of the Chimki team. The first one started in 2011 and lasted until 2016, when the coach was fired.
