Pressured by the abundance of cold and snow, they attract people to their places of residence, even reaching the cities. A few days ago, the partridges arrived in the courtyard of an apartment building on J. Basanavičiaus street in Kėdainiai.
Caught at random
Laura Petkevičienė, a resident of the apartment building on J. Basanavičiaus Street, captured a herd of partridges in the backyard of the house, in the parking lot, where residents keep their cars.
The photos taken by L. Petkevičienė show more than a dozen partridges actively looking for food.
Locals believe that the partridges came here from the fields of the suburban village of Janušava, where they live. People felt sorry for the partridges, built feeders, fed wild birds.
Selemonas Paltanavičius, the most famous Lithuanian naturalist, author of books on nature and animals, specialist at the Ministry of the Environment, did not say much about hearing partridges arriving in the courtyards of apartment buildings in Kėdainiai. According to the expert, the only way to survive for partridges is with the help of people.
Need help
“The snow cover has become critical for the partridges and it continues to snow. Kurapkas can no longer retrieve food. In recent days, they are even reaching the courtyards of apartment buildings in search of food.
Our volunteer Laura recorded how a group of these birds visited the courtyard of an apartment building. Let’s help them survive, equip them with hiding places of opportunity, or at least wake up food.

Several grains must be fed to feed these birds: oats, barley, wheat. Also suitable for grain residues, straw, weed seeds, vegetable residues, groats, breadcrumbs.
Along with the feed, it is necessary to fill with fine gravel and sand ”, described and explained the situation Greta Linkė, an employee of the Pifas animal welfare service.
Very sad

What a partridge winter. Anyway, they seem to have been forgotten, only those who came to the people won. Because it is difficult for people to go to them …
How many of them will survive? Definitely less than last winter. Will only the problem of partridges, as a protected species, worry anyone when the snow melts? We will wait and see … ”said the Lithuanian naturalist.
