Kubilius MEP, who has become permanent rapporteur on Russia, will formulate the position and approach of the European Parliament on what is happening in Russia, as well as prepare reports, resolutions and special hearings on Russian affairs.

So far, the Eastern Partnership policy of the European Union is one of the most important issues in the European Parliament, where A. Kubilius works.

The MEP chairs the EURONEST Parliamentary Assembly, whose main area of activity is change in the Eastern Partnership countries, including Belarus. The Eastern Partnership countries (Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Sakartvell, Armenia, Azerbaijan) are a geopolitical part of the European continent, intervening between the European Union and Russia.

According to the MEP, the extension of political responsibilities in the European Parliament to Russia is natural, but somewhat unexpected:
“My critical view of the Kremlin regime has been pending for a long time and does not change.” Nor do I hide it in the European Parliament – last year I started the informal “Forum of Friends of European Russia”, where we discussed with the Russian opposition and experts when and how the changes that are currently taking place in Belarus will begin in Russia, “he says. A Kubilius

“Until now, it has seemed that the ‘old Europe’ has a different approach to Russia than we do, the ‘new Europe’. That is why I was pleasantly surprised when the leadership of the Group of the European People’s Party (EPP) offered me such an important and responsible position in Russian affairs, ”says A. Kubilius. – Russia, as we know, is a country that never allows “boredom”: only recently, from the poisoning of Alexei Navaln to the constant protests in Khabarovsk.

In my opinion, the European Union must have a much clearer geopolitical strategy for Russia, in which the “Belarusian change” can start as suddenly and unexpectedly as it did in Belarus itself. That is the strategy we will follow. “

Already on Tuesday, at the suggestion of A. Kubilius, at the meeting of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament (AFET), information was heard about the possibilities of carrying out an objective international investigation into the history of the poisoning of the Russian opposition leader A. Navaln. It was agreed that these discussions would be expanded upon at a future committee meeting.
