One of the main negative factors affecting its activities is the decision taken by the BNK in December to temporarily suspend the export of petroleum derivatives.
In January, BNK exported a small amount of oil sold through previous transactions through Klaipėda, but it is not planned to export it in February or later, according to tenders announced by BNK, says Klaipėdos Nafta.
“In 2021, we do not expect a stable flow of Belarusian petroleum products through the Klaipedos Nafta terminals, which inevitably means increased pressure on the company’s performance and our efforts (…) to further diversify activities and offset potential losses through alternatives to other services and cost savings, “said Darius Šilenskis, CEO of Klaipedos Nafta.
“2021 will continue to be a challenging period not only for us, but also for many other companies,” he added.
Revenues from the joint venture’s oil terminals fell 2 percent last year. up to EUR 31,414 million (2013: EUR 32,073 million). The company does not publish how many of them were received solely for the handling of Belarusian products.
BNK, which has collaborated with this company for more than ten years, announced in mid-December that it was temporarily suspending the export of petroleum products through the Klaipedos Nafta terminal. The Klaipėda company then declared that all the agreements with BNK remained valid, but that the obligations arising from them were suspended indefinitely.
In early January, it was announced that BNK had decided not to renew the long-term contract with the Lithuanian railway company LTG Cargo, which transports its products to the port of Klaipeda.
Railways then told BNS that after the expiration of the three-year company agreement on December 31, starting in January, Belarusian oil shipments would be transported only according to BNK’s needs and without obligations. LTG Cargo and BNK agreed that between 60 and 70 thousand tons will be transported in January. tons of dark oil products.
The BNS company specified that 88,000 were transported in January. tons of BNK cargo and has not received a request for February.
In 2020, LTG Cargo transported approximately 2 million. tons of BNK oil and its products, including oil transported from Klaipeda to Belarus. The products are transported by rail from the Mozyr plant in Belarus to Klaipeda, the nearest sea port, where they are transshipped to ships.
Klaipedos Nafta does not announce the amount of cargo CNK handles, but claims that in recent years it has handled 5-6 million tonnes of cargo a year. tons of petroleum products, account for about 25 percent. general handling. In addition to Belarus, the company also loads oil products from Orlen Lietuvos.
