Over the weekend, when several Kaunas State Choir choristers were upset, rehearsals were held remotely for the entire past week. During that time, tests on team members showed that up to ten of them were infected with COVID-19. This is the second time that this choir and the Kaunas State Philharmonic, where they reside, have become the focus of the coronavirus.

Justinas Krėpšta, director of the Kaunas State Philharmonic, told kauno.diena.lt portal last week that the results of the group’s investigation are expected.

As far as he knows, this time the coronavir has caught up to ten showgirls, but his condition is much better than that of some of his colleagues who were ill in the summer, who even had to go to the hospital.

“It just came to our attention then. There are those who have no symptoms. Some maintained a temperature of 38 degrees for a few days. After all, the self-isolation ends on the 13th, but due to the nationwide quarantine, the trials that only they have room for healthy choristers will remain remote. We have prepared programs for that work, “said J. Krėpšta.

We asked if there were any showgirls who were infected with COVID-19 for the second time. For those who got sick this summer, the survey responses were negative.

The contact choir rehearsals are in the risk zone as they sing without masks. “There are many more sick instrumentalists – just one more, the choristers -” J. Krėpšta reviewed the experience of Lithuanian groups. In addition, more than one specialist works in various choirs or gives concerts with representatives of various groups.

It is believed that the virus infection reached the Philharmonic this time from the Marijampolė choristers. The choir director who works with them also works in the Kaunas choir.

“When the positive cases became apparent in the Marijampol informed choir, he informed us, although he had not yet received a positive response,” said J. Krėpšta. At that time, we already had information about the poor well-being of the residents of Kaunas, who had already decided to move to the virtual space.

There are many more sick instrumentalists, just each other, choristers.

What new preventive measures are foreseen after the quarantine when it comes to contact rehearsals and live concerts? Perhaps it is worth limiting the number of workplaces, cooperation with other teams?

“It just came to our attention then. Salaries, you know what? In big bands, the choirs get a little more than the minimum. So we are looking for ways to earn free time. If there was a more decent salary, then it would be possible to think. .. ”J. Krėpšta considered.

In the summer, the virus entered the choir through a member of the showgirl’s family. Five choristers were ill at the time.
