Kaunas has started testing teachers with COVID-19 rapid tests: the first 20 teachers have been tested

The city operates according to a detailed action plan prepared in advance. Teachers from one school are taken by bus to the checkpoint, where they are tested safely in a separate room.

If a positive case arises, this would be considered a preliminary result, as it is known that rapid forensic analysis can react to other parameters and would not necessarily indicate a coronavirus (COVID-19) infection.

However, the same action plan provides for PCR (polymerase chain reaction) testing in the vicinity of the mobile checkpoint, and said patient is transported in a separate transport to a safe environment for self-isolation until the latest results are available quickly. Our goal is to minimize its duration so that all data is recovered as quickly as possible.

“Working with children is in itself stressful and requires more attention. Current conditions make this even more so, so it is the city’s duty to ensure that teachers avoid additional stress and are able to work to their fullest when the new school year begins. We hope that these preventive measures will provide more security for employees of educational institutions and allow them to concentrate on their direct duties, ”says the Mayor of Kaunas, Visvaldas Matijošaitis.

In the near future, similar conditions will be created for employees of the State Service for the Protection and Adoption of Children’s Rights under the Ministry of Social Security and Labor.
