On Wednesday, after hearing from representatives of the Batniava community, Kaunas district mayor Valerijus Makūnas ordered the administration to prepare a draft Council decision not to approve the planned economic activity of the Rizgonys company in the Pakarklė forest (Batniava sen.).
The mayor relied on a petition signed by 1,323 locals to oppose a commercial invasion of a charming corner of nature.
Gravel excavation is planned in the forest area, near which several gardener communities are located.
