Kaunas canceled the quarantine? In the city center, like an anthill

As Kaunas celebrated the city’s birthday on Saturday afternoon, the center recalled a large anthill. Hundreds of people raged on Vilniaus Street and Laisvės Alley, although most of the events took place in the neighborhoods without announcing their place and time in advance.

“We succumbed to the temptation of good weather and the desire for freedom,” this would describe what was happening in downtown Kaunas.

Crowds of people. Some enjoyed the sun, the company of the other, to feel like part of the crowd again.

Some sat in the open-air cafes on Vilniaus Street or Laisv Als Alley, others rumbled back and forth on the Town Hall Square – Vilniaus Street – Laisvės Alley – Fountain – Soboras route.

“We sit during quarantine. We want to move, we want to see people alive,” he said correctly.

Neither was applied around 5 p.m. to meet us in Santaka or near Kaunas Castle. ANBO trio performance on air.

The sound of the planes, flying side by side over the castle, left a tricolor tail behind them. “And that is?” – He was furious and that, only when they saw the pilots in the distance, the assembled asked themselves.

I had to see the smoke figures drawn by Vilijampolė from very far from Žaliakalnis. The pilots soon returned to Kaunas Castle. “Like an American roller coaster,” one of the figures was named after a small Kaunas resident.

After passing through the Town Hall Square, on Vilniaus Street towards Laisvės Alley, it was hardly possible to pass by people, much less at a safe distance.

“Kaunas has already quarantined,” such observations shot the heads of many passersby, looking at the mass of people.

Liberty Avenue was not so small, one could feel a little more comfortable.

Young families, older couples, friends, friends, or single residents of Kaunas walked or sat at the tables. Some decided that tonight was a great opportunity to celebrate their mother’s anniversary. The woman happily interacted with loved ones with a wide smile, still holding a bouquet of flowers in her hands.

To the city, to the whole family and, therefore, with pets. Some four-legged people silently tapped next to the hosts, one foot behind the center walking through the center, others could lie on the tables while the hosts rested, socializing at an outdoor café.

The hustle, the smiles, the warm summer weather – quarantine seems like a bad dream. Especially when we met the march of the Orquesta de Robles in the Callejón de Laisv. Some knew and accompanied the rhythm and grace of the blows brought by the orchestra and dancers with applause, others at least with looks of admiration and nostalgia for events and concerts.

It is true that the events that lasted during the quarantine were overwhelmed today, on the occasion of the birthday of the city of Kaunas. Not a single Kaunas resident disapproved of who those events were if, as quarantine conditions dictated, it was not possible to announce where and when they would be. Supposedly a surprise for neighborhood residents, they will listen from afar and will be able to come from a safe distance to look, listen.

However, those who attended these events were pleasantly surprised. The performances prepared and performed by professionals, choir performances, dancers and other groups did not leave indifferent communities, whose patios and streets were visited by the culture on the occasion of the birthday of the city of Kaunas.

The birthday program includes up to 40 presentations, other surprises throughout the city: squares, patios, streets, etc. Theaters, dance and music groups, museums, V. Kudirka Public Library, Romuva Cinema and others took care of that.

You will see moments of some of the performances in the photo galleries captured by the photographer of “Kauno diena”.
