“Our group, I have high hopes, will vote against, because it is a very normal step for the opposition. I cannot say for other (opposition) factions, they will decide this morning, it would be very logical to vote” no “, R. Karbauskis told LRT radio on Tuesday.

According to him, “if no one from the opposition votes for I. Šimonytė, it is useless for her to be approved as a candidate for prime minister.”

The peasant leader assured that this decision is not related to the disagreements in the Seimas on the formation of the parliamentary leadership, when the peasants were left without the position of Vice President of the Seimas.

“The action of any really opposition party is to vote against the Government’s program, to vote against the candidate for prime minister, because it is quite clear that it is based first on the personality, then on the programmatic,” said R. Karbauskis.

He also criticized the candidacy of I. Šimonytė and his proposed candidates for the Cabinet of Ministers.

“When Lukas Savickas applied to become Minister of Economy and Innovation, the president said that he did not have the experience or the proper education. This is probably half of those who are not offered anything like Luke’s competence and experience.” said the leader of the opposition peasants.

On Tuesday, he intends to confirm to the Central Electoral Commission that he resigns from the mandate of a member of the Seimas, after which his powers would be terminated immediately.

R. Karbauskis hopes that his step “will help restore the rights of the peasants as an opposition faction.”

I. Šimonytė’s candidacy for the post of prime minister is proposed by a center-right coalition, consisting of conservatives, liberals and the Freedom Party. They have 73 of the 141 seats in the Seimas.

The decision to approve the candidacy of the Prime Minister is taken by a simple majority of votes in open voting.
